Family stories and foundations

The Why Behind Readiness

This collection centers the families who know heatstroke not as a headline, but as a lived reality. Many have built foundations in their children’s names; when they invite us to, we link directly to those organizations so their advocacy can reach more teams, bands, and communities. We publish these stories to honor their loved ones and to accelerate practical readiness—because every body responds to heat differently, and real-time Insights from vitals can help make better decisions during practice and competition. Some accounts include loss. Please read with care, and support the families and nonprofits who choose to share.

Remy Hidalgo Memorial Foundation

Remy Hidalgo was a 16-year-old at Denham Springs High School. During a September 2020 practice, Remy collapsed. Despite all efforts Remy died three days later from exertional heatstroke.

A strong student, loyal teammate, and steady friend, Remy is remembered for his kindness and the way he told people he loved them.

In his name, the Remy Hidalgo Memorial Foundation stands for practical action and lasting impact: equipping schools with readiness tools like cooling tubs and wet bulb globe thermometers, awarding annual scholarships, and educating communities about heat-related illness and deaths so programs are better prepared when conditions turn extreme.

“This never should have happened. Remy did everything he was asked; he trusted the adults around him. I tell his story because I don’t want another parent to feel what I feel. Remy’s legacy is making sure every school is ready when the heat rises.” — Ashley Roberson, Remy’s mom
